A Calgary man sentenced in January to three years in prison for his role in a 2014 drunk driving collision was granted day parole on Wednesday.

Kulwinder Singh Chohan pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death in a 2015 New Year’s Day crash on Metis Trail that killed 20-year-old Ramil ‘Francis’ Pesa. Chohan’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at the time.

Pesa’s car was hit by a Dodge Ram that crossed the centre line between 80 Avenue and Country Hills Boulevard.

 He died in hospital less than a week later.
