Jul 20, 2015 - PRATT DROPPING APPEALS OF HIS DRUNK DRIVING CONVICTION AND SENTENCING

According to letters filed in court, Johnathan Pratt is dropping his conviction and sentencing appeals.

He was sentenced to eight years in prison after getting drunk and slamming his pickup truck into a car near Beaumont at nearly 200 km/h, killing three young men inside the car.

Sheri Arsenault, who lost her son Bradley in the collision, says Pratt’s decision to accept the consequences of his actions comes as a relief.

“Deep down I know that he didn’t have a leg to stand on,” remarked Arsenault. “But still, since September, it’s been lingering over our heads…would they actually entertain this appeal?”

Pratt was also sentenced to a life-time driving ban, after the tragic collision back in November of 2011.

Arsenault says the sentence set a good precedent for the next time something like this happens.

“It was his first offence — he had never been caught before. So that will aid prosecutors going forward with aiming for a very good sentence for impaired drivers causing death.”

Arsenault says the only justice in the case, would be if her son and his two friends were able to walk back through the door.
