May 30, 2015 - IMPAIRED DRIVER IN CRASH THAT KILLED TAXI DRIVER, PASSENGER AWAITS BAIL DECISION

25-year-old Jillian Lavallee was a passenger in a taxi when she was fatally injured in an accident earlier this month

A 20-year-old man charged with impaired driving causing death after a taxi driver and his female passenger were killed will stay in jail until a judge makes a decision on bail.

Amritpal Singh Kharbanda was killed in the crash last month that also fatally injured 25-year-old Jillian Lavalee who was a passenger in his taxi.

The man is accused of running a red light on Macleod Trail and 12th Avenue southeast on May 2, killing two people. An SUV hit a small car that in turn hit a taxi.

The 46-year-old taxi driver, Amritpal Kharbanda died at the scene and his 25-year-old passenger, Jillian Lavalee died in hospital hours later. The driver left behind a wife and two children.

The bail decision will be released on Wednesday.
